 Hospital Transport

Help right here on your doorstep

Did you know that there is a driver/befriender scheme that started in Ampleforth and is now expanding throughout Ryedale?

The Driver and Befriender Project is run by the national charity CSV under the Retired Senior Volunteer Programme (RSVP). It is coordinated by Steve Twynham.

The aim is to help those with transport problems to get to healthcare appointments, both locally and to hospitals in York, Leeds, Scarborough, Middlesbrough, Malton, Hull, and Northallerton. Support is offered in other ways too, such as moral support before and after appointments.

The service is run by volunteers, a dedicated group of people who give a little of their time willingly for the benefit of others.

The donations given by the beneficiaries of the service are used to enable volunteers to reach more and more people in our region so that they, too, can be helped to solve their healthcare transport problems.

In the first three years of the service the volunteers covered 8,000 miles, made 800 journeys and supported nearly 100 beneficiaries.

Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer or in receiving more information should phone Lynne Woodgate on 01439 788639 or Steve Twynham on 07557 684099 or email.
